I am a member of this group at The Embroiderer’s Guild of Victoria. It has been quite a while since I attended a meeting, but that is mostly due to the fact that I live on the outskirts of Melbourne and spend most Monday nights running around after kids. These meetings usually have excellent speakers, and this month promises to be among those.
Ilka White trained as a weaver, but her textile output has explored many mediums and directions. A gallant disregard for disciplinary boundaries has led her to collaborate with a jeweller, a digital embroiderer, a maker of motorcycle leathers and a 3D inflatable manufacturer among others!
Alongside the broad interests of her practice, Ilka will share the sensitive thinking behind her most recent works, produced in response to the natural world.
Ilka is currently a lecturer at RMIT University in the Studio Textiles Department.
Ilka will be speaking at Embroidery House, 170 Wattletree Rd, Malvern, Victoria on Monday 7th September, 2009 at 7:30pm. Entry is $5. ALL WELCOME. Further information is available at www.embroidersguildvic.org/tag
