Miss Buttons…

I have mentioned several times here that this year I am teaching textiles to Year 8 students for the first time.  Our first, non assessed project is to make a pincushion.  I have made plenty of those.  The second (assessed) project is to design and make a bag.  I have only made a few of these, but still, no probs.  The third project is to make boxer shorts.  Again, these are assessed.  As I used to make a lot of clothes for myself, again, no problems with this.  But the final project!!!  Oh boy!!! I have NEVER been interested in making soft toys, but this is the fourth project for my students.  Oh CRUMBS!!!  No worries.  I can read a pattern.  But the teacher I share one class with, she doesn’t need to read a pattern.  Grrr.  And the kids of course picked up on that!!!!  So my holiday homework is … to make some soft toys!  On Sunday, I made my first soft toy in over 25 years!  It was Miss Buttons, a kit  by Sew Your Own that I picked up at a show last year. Or was it the year before?  And here she is…

Miss Buttons was a nice, simple softie to make, and the pattern was well written.  I would recommend making her to any beginner softie maker.  Naturally as soon as I brought her out to show her to the rest of the family, one of my daughter claimed her.  Now on to the next softie – this one is one that the kids at work are able to do…
